Company history

At the beginning of the 70's Mr. Bloed Sr. started growing several types of berries, raspberries, cherries and pears in 'the fruit heart' of the Betuwe. Potatoes, haricot beans, sugar beet and grain were also grown.

Over the years Bloed Sr. became more and more focused on the cultivation of redcurrants. Halfway through the '70s he succeeded in harvesting redcurrants earlier, in the middle of June, which was unique at that time! Using new cultivation methods, some years later it was possible to delay the harvesting until the middle of October. The long harvest period made Bloed Sr. decide to focus entirely on growing of red currants.

At the beginning of the '90s two sons entered the company and during this period the company also started the long-term storage (ULO) of redcurrants. During these years the company focused on the growing, cooling, sorting and packaging of redcurrants. This quality product was brought to the market under the brand name Bloedbessen®, a brand that sets the highest standards for both quality and availability. In order to guarantee the latter, production was expanded with a second location in Neerijnen. This location is completely focused on the cultivation of redcurrants for long-term storage. Meanwhile in Neerijnen storage possibilities were also put in place.
