Sorting and packaging
After the last berries have been picked, the stock in the cold stores is used. The berries in the 'storage friendly' packaging are then carefully checked and repackaged in the packaging desired by the customer. Both the sorting and the packaging are still done by hand in order to guarantee quality. In order not to interrupt the cold chain, this process takes place in an air-conditioned environment.

Bloedbessen are not only delicious, but most of all very healthy. Red currants are rich in fibre and vitamins. Vitamin C, which the redcurrant is abundant in, is an anti-oxidant.

Anti-oxidants are important because they very thoroughly neutralize and clean undesirable microorganisms. Free radicals have the annoying property that they react with many substances in the body and convert these into damaging substances.

The relatively high concentration of anti-oxidants in the berries thus provides an important contribution to a healthy diet. Bloedbessen are not only eaten on their own, but also with ice cream, yoghurt or flan, in salads or as a filling in pastries or pancakes. Furthermore, berries can be used in smoothies or in compote.

Storage

You can best keep the berries unwashed in the fridge. Depending upon the time of year, the berries will keep for about a week, provided that they are covered, undamaged and dry. The best storage temperature is between 1-4 C.
